What is WI all about?
Ask that question and many people would answer disparagingly, some-thing like “Oh Jam and Jerusalem” but do they know why they became symbolic of WI, particularly in the past.
JAM is a reminder of the WI’s public service during the War when members preserved, rather than let go to waste, well over
5 thousand tons of fruit to supplement the jam ration of the time.
JERUSALEM reflects our proud history of nearly 100 years of effective campaigning to improve all aspects of the lives of people in this
“green and pleasant land “
so W I members are still proud of these aspects of our activities
It is fun and friendship during meetings
Out of meeting activities, courses and visits
Being part of and supporting the local community
Exchanging and passing on skills and crafts
Equally important developing new interests and skills
Come and give us a try, the only charge for the first 3 months is 35p for tea and cake!
After that, or earlier if you wish ,we hope you will join and on paying your subs you will get information about county and national events and the WI monthly national magazine , equal to only £2.50 a month for all the ac-tivities involved in and outside the meetings.
